A piece of a series set in the Alien franchise, where my character is tasked with helping a stolen Weyland-Yutani synthetic Walter model to develop feelings. Set during Alien Earth and heavily inspired by the Alien Covenant book **************************** The air was different here. From the years it...he had sat a layer of dust had been freshly cleaned off and something in it's....no his. He was a him. It had been so long a few basic set programs had had to be reconfirmed. His joints and limbs felt lighter, like light restructuring and maintenance had been done. The focus on his hands that still felt articulate after a single flex of a digit confirmed it. Time had passed. How much time? Questions could be answered later. Internal engines and liquid delivery systems slid clean and freshly refined liquid silicone. He felt....yes felt was the good word, ready for tasks once more. He had felt before? Yes. Then he must have been active for some time. Neural synapses met and sent signal to his olfactory and aural receptors. Both coming into full function at once allowing several senses to flood in simultaneously. Jasmine. A pure pressed oil directly from the flower petals without alcohol, likely handmade locally. As the scent swirled into his focus a noise followed. A sweet laugh, filled with joy, awe and careful optimism. The voice tried to quiet itself like they were trying not to distract yet. The floral scent seemed to be from this person who was close by. Color entered and came into view. Sensors picking and choosing hundreds of targets at once to create images in front of him. The shape of a room came into view as his eyes opened. Sharp and blinking softly, yes blinking he remembered now. Doing that was important. For who again? As he blinked a form came into view. Human. Another voice spoke, further away with a reverb, a speaker above them. Male, young but with authority. "Move closer. Let him see you." The human above him did so, leaning over the table he was on. It was cool and metal against his back. It took an extra second for his visual perception to focus in on the target. A human woman's face came into view, shifting out of blur. Brown wide eyes blinked. Slightly curved in an almond shape, Native American Indigenous genealogy. Tan skin was slightly washed out by the pale lights above them. A rounded face and curious expression noted youth and inexperience. This was a first for her. The washed out hue to her skin disappeared as her lips spread into a wide smile. A flush of red under her cheeks, likely rosacea, brightened her face as she smiled. Eyes crinkling along with a head tilt. Her teeth were uneven, akin to a rabbit. All of her together gave him a conclusion. She must be considered beautiful. A distant piece of data missing a name also noted prior information, others would agree. Who taught him what was beautiful? The question faded as she finally spoke to him, with a smile filled with warmth and joy. She was happy to see him. "Hi there! Nice to meet you!"
