9moWord Of The Day
Struthonian (noun): An uncommon term for a person who ignores unpleasant facts or reality. Much like the mythical ostrich burying its head in the sand. Pronunciation: [stroo-THOH-nee-an] Etymology: Invented by writer Arthur Koestler in 1963. Derived from struthio (Latin for ostrich) and Greek struthos, related to the bird's name. Struthonian may be spiritually aligned with the ostrich, but it’s emotionally aligned with “la la la I can’t hear you.” If struthonian were a day of the week, it would be Friday, where we boldly ignore responsibilities until Monday notices us. The struthonian sees a flashing check engine light and immediately puts black electrical tape over it. And finally, when the struthonian chef encounters a broken emulsion, they simply rename it. “This isn’t a failed hollandaise, it’s deconstructed artisanal butter.”
