Ullage (noun): The amount by which a container falls short of being full. The word ullage presents itself as a little frumpy while judgmental, and possibly inebriated. Ullage is the reason you aggressively shake a juice bottle like it owes you money while yelling out loud in front of no one, “Who signed off on this air gap?” Ullage is also that 70% of air in a 5 dollar bag of potato chips. Ullage is the reason bartenders top off drinks like heroes. They refuse to accept the concept. In conclusion: Ullage is the empty space between expectation and reality. It is the sigh of the container. It is the disappointment of what could’ve been.
