She-Hulk Succeeds where Captain Marvel Failed

She-Hulk has been lauded as the apex of Marvel mediocrity and review-bombed to hell for its ham-fisted feminine cringe. That being said, I think She-Hulk does some valuable things well that Marvel as a whole has been suffering from. For instance, most Marvel projects sacrifice their dramatic tension for comedic interjections, which She-Hulk avoids by being a comedy altogether. She-Hulk's low stakes and slice-of-life storytelling means the story and characters aren't restricted to a bigger narrative. Personally, I was more disappointed with Captain Marvel, which is hardly a feminist narrative, as its protagonist steam-rolls any and all obstacles without so much as presenting the modern issues of white women in America. Only doing so as allegory, and against an older female character in power. Carol Danvers is less a character and more the idea of "strong woman", without the obstacles that make her feel real. Strong Female Characters often have two pitfalls, in Dark Phoenix and GoT, a woman cannot handle power and simply loses her mind. In this instance, female characters sacrifice their personality and character-moments to just be good and perfect, say, Carol Danvers and Rey Skywalker She-Hulk's Jennifer Walters by comparison is a character who has incredible powers, if we're going by the comics, but manages to stay relatable and human. She's clumsy, she has bad dates, people dislike her, and she has to prove herself often, balancing her new sexy persona with her true meek self. Her real power is essentially confidence, which the show clumsily alluded to when Jennifer informed her cousin on the day-to-day fears of a woman, which are not untrue. Surprisingly, She-Hulk manages to do all this without detracting men, which many of its critics seem to complain about. We often see Jennifer do quite well with male counterparts, her would-be assaulter in the first episode becomes a friend during her lowest moments, a once-villain is now the symbol of positive masculinity and self-help, with a handful of others standing up for She-Hulk. Even her interaction with Daredevil feels natural, as he's more experienced and ever the charmer. Sure, She-Hulk is cringe and does suffer from many Marvel issues, such as the increasing abuse of their VFX department, which the show itself lampshades by calling out the tireless Marvel Machine. Personally, I think the hate is overblown, and I liked She-Hulk for what it is. Not everything has to be a battle against god-king Dr. Doom.

Well thought out review I havto say 👍 While I wasn't mad about the show as a whole I do agree with some of your points. They represented her as a strong, capable female character that had her own obstacles to overcome. Had some self-doubt but managed to overcome it. The comedy was very hit and miss for me but maybe they'll nail it next time. I'd definitely give it another chance if they do a season 2.
