Bio – Leslie Fenton

Leslie Fenton was an English actor, director, and producer who made a name for himself in the entertainment industry during the early 20th century. He was born on March 12, 1902, in Liverpool, England, and began his career as a performer on stage and screen in the UK. Fenton first appeared in silent films, but soon transitioned into the sound era and accumulated around 50 credits as an actor over the course of his career. In addition to acting, Leslie Fenton also gained recognition for his work as a director and producer. He directed several films in the 1930s and 1940s, including the 1936 adventure film “The Last of the Mohicans” and the 1941 comedy “The Saint Takes Over”. Fenton also produced films such as the 1934 drama “Sadie McKee” and the 1950 war film “The Desert Hawk”. His work as a director and producer allowed him to further establish himself in the entertainment industry and showcase his versatility. Despite his success, Leslie Fenton’s career was plagued by controversy. In the early 1940s, he became involved in a high-profile scandal involving actress Joan Bennett, with whom Fenton was allegedly having an affair. Bennett’s husband, producer Walter Wanger, shot Fenton in a fit of jealousy, injuring him but ultimately not killing him. Fenton’s career suffered as a result of the incident, and he ultimately retired from the entertainment industry in the 1950s. Leslie Fenton passed away on March 25, 1978, at the age of 76. Despite the tumultuous end to his career, he was remembered as a talented actor, director, and producer who made a significant impact on the entertainment industry in the first half of the 20th century.
