Phyllis Kirk was an American actress who graced both the big and small screens in the 1950s and 60s. She was born on September 18th, 1927, in Syracuse, New York, and grew up in western New York with her family. Kirk started her career in acting in the late 1940s after being discovered by the legendary comedian Groucho Marx. Her first role was a minor one in the movie A Double Life in 1947. Soon after, Kirk landed a contract with Ealing Studios in London, where she worked on several films for the next two years. The actress got her big break in 1953 when she starred in the horror film House of Wax alongside Vincent Price. Kirk played the lead female role of Sue Allen, a character who gets pursued by the film's antagonist. The movie was an instant success at the box office, and it helped to establish Kirk's place in Hollywood. Interestingly, House of Wax was also the first film to be released in 3D, which added to its immense popularity. Following her breakout role, Kirk appeared in several other films, including The Prince Who Was a Thief, The Big Night, and Crime of Passion. Despite her success in film, Kirk also became a prominent television actress in the 1950s. She starred in several popular shows such as Studio One, The United States Steel Hour, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
