His portrayal of the character was highly praised, and Stewart went on to reprise the role in the movie adaptation of the show, titled "Check and Double Check" (1930). Alongside his acting career, Stewart’s singing talent was highly recognized. He was a member of the vocal group The Four Toppers, whose most popular hit, "I Got Loaded” (1951), was a chart-topping success. Stewart's contributions to the entertainment industry did not go unnoticed. In 2005, he was posthumously inducted into the National Black Theatre Hall of Fame, recognizing his valuable contributions to Black theater. Throughout his career, Stewart proved to be an advocate for African-American performers, fighting for their equal rights and opportunities in the industry.
