In 1924, Masaoka co-founded the first animation studio in Japan, the Yokohama Cinema Shōkai, where he directed and produced several animated films. One of his notable early works includes "Chikara to Onna no Yo no Naka" (Inside Women's Power), a short film that explored social issues and feminist themes. Masaoka's most significant contribution to Japanese animation came in 1932 when he directed and produced "Chikara to Onna no Yo no Naka," widely considered as the first feature-length anime film. Titled "The Dull Sword," it was a groundbreaking achievement that solidified Masaoka's reputation as a visionary in the field. His work often revolved around Japanese folklore, history, and moral lessons, using vivid storytelling and expressive movements to captivate audiences. Kenzō Masaoka continued to make an impact on Japanese animation until his untimely death on April 9, 1988.
