Alfred Scow
Alfred Scow Bio
Alfred Scow is a highly respected figure in Canadian society, renowned for his significant contributions to various fields. Born on November 4, 1927, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Scow's heritage can be traced back to the Kwicksutaineuk-ah-kwa-mish First Nation, also known as the 'Kwakiutl' people. As a member of an Indigenous community, Scow became a trailblazer and advocate for Indigenous rights, serving as a catalyst for change throughout his life.
Scow's journey towards becoming a prominent personality in Canada began with his pursuit of education. He attended the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he earned a law degree in 1956, becoming the first Indigenous person in British Columbia to achieve this milestone. In an era when Indigenous individuals faced immense obstacles and discrimination, Scow's accomplishment was groundbreaking and helped pave the way for future Indigenous lawyers.
Notably, Scow's impact extended far beyond the legal field. He was passionate about higher education and dedicated much of his career to teaching and academic administration. Scow served as an influential educator at UBC, where he became the first Indigenous person to be appointed as a law school professor in Canada. Additionally, he served as the Dean of the UBC Faculty of Law from 1971 to 1974, breaking yet another barrier for Indigenous individuals in academia.
Scow's commitment to advancing Indigenous rights did not stop at education and law. He played an instrumental role in the negotiation and establishment of the landmark Nisga’a Treaty in 2000, which marked the first modern treaty between an Indigenous nation and the government of Canada. This achievement showcased Scow's dedication to reconciliation and the empowerment of Indigenous communities, solidifying his status as a national figure fighting for justice and equality for all. Alfred Scow's lasting legacy as an Indigenous leader, accomplished lawyer, esteemed educator, and tireless advocate continues to inspire generations of Canadians to strive for progress and inclusivity.
Which Enneagram Type is Alfred Scow?
Alfred Scow is an Enneagram Four personality type with a Three wing or 4w3. 4w3s have competitive and image-conscious energy that wants to be unique and a total stand out. However, their sensitivity from the third wing makes them more aware of what others think than those who have a fourth type temperament or fifth wing influence on social acceptability. Healing by eliminating their own feelings does not come easily for them as deep down they also yearn for self-expression to be heard and understood.
