Born on November 25, 1976, in Conyers, Georgia, Mathis represented his country at the international level and enjoyed a successful career playing for various clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS) as well as in Europe.
Mathis gained prominence in the late 1990s when he burst onto the scene as a member of the U.S. national team. With his exceptional skills and natural ability, he quickly became a fan favorite. Mathis had an impressive international career, earning 46 caps and scoring 12 goals for his country. He represented the United States in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he played a significant role in the team's historic run to the quarterfinals.
