Obinna Ekezie is a former professional basketball player who was born on August 22, 1975, in Nigeria. Despite being born in Nigeria, he later became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Ekezie is best known for his college basketball career at the University of Maryland, where he played for the Terrapins from 1995 to 1999. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches tall, Ekezie played as a power forward and center, displaying his skills and athleticism. Ekezie's journey to the United States started when he moved to the country at the age of 14 for better educational opportunities. He attended John Carroll School in Maryland, where he quickly made a name for himself on the basketball court. Following his successful high school career, Ekezie received a scholarship to play at the University of Maryland. During his time at the University of Maryland, Ekezie proved to be a valuable asset to the Terrapins' basketball program. He was known for his strong inside presence, shot-blocking ability, and rebounding skills. Ekezie's contributions to the team were instrumental in Maryland's success during his tenure. In his junior year, he helped lead the team to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, and his senior year saw the Terrapins make it to the NCAA Elite Eight. Following his successful college career, Ekezie was drafted in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. He went on to play in the NBA for eight seasons, suiting up for the Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and Atlanta Hawks. While injuries hampered his time in the league, Ekezie has still left a lasting impact on the basketball community, both in the United States and beyond.
