Ruben Patterson Bio

Ruben Patterson, born on July 31, 1975, in Cleveland, Ohio, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1998 to 2008 as a small forward and shooting guard. Patterson gained recognition during his career for his relentless defense and his tenacity on the court, earning him the nickname "The Kobe Stopper" for his formidable defense against the legendary Kobe Bryant.

Prior to his professional basketball career, Patterson attended Independence High School in Columbus and later played college basketball for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats from 1994 to 1998. He was an integral part of the Bearcats' success, leading the team to back-to-back Conference USA championships in 1996 and 1997. Patterson's skills and athleticism made him one of the most exciting players to watch in college basketball during his time at Cincinnati.

In 1998, Patterson decided to declare for the NBA Draft, and he was selected 31st overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. However, his NBA career started with the Seattle SuperSonics, where he played for three seasons and saw continuous improvement in his game. Patterson then went on to have stints with the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Clippers, showcasing his defensive prowess and his ability to contribute offensively.

While Patterson was known for his on-court performances, he also faced some off-court challenges throughout his career. In 2001, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of attempted rape in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, resulting in a suspended sentence and probation. Despite this setback, Patterson managed to continue his basketball career and contribute significantly to the teams he played for, earning a reputation as a player who brought energy, toughness, and dedication to the game.

After retiring from professional basketball in 2008, Patterson transitioned into coaching and mentoring young athletes. He has become involved in various projects to support and inspire young players, using his experiences and knowledge of the game to guide the next generation. Though his career had its ups and downs, Ruben Patterson remains a notable figure in the world of basketball, remembered for his tenacious defense, incredible athleticism, and strong work ethic.
