Cy Seymour
Cy Seymour Bio
Cy Seymour was an American professional baseball player who gained fame during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born on December 9, 1867, in Albany, New York, Seymour played for various Major League Baseball (MLB) teams and became one of the most well-known and accomplished outfielders of his time. With an illustrious career that spanned over 12 seasons, he left an indelible mark on the sport.
Seymour began his MLB career in 1896 with the New York Giants, where he quickly established himself as a talented player. Known for his outstanding speed and strong arm, Seymour became renowned for his ability to cover vast areas of the outfield, making difficult catches and preventing opponents from advancing bases. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Seymour's imposing physique and athletic prowess made him a formidable presence on the field.
In 1898, Seymour joined the Baltimore Orioles where he played for two seasons before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds. During his time with the Reds, he continued to impress both fans and teammates with his exceptional skills. In 1902, Seymour had an outstanding season, hitting .377 with 121 runs batted in (RBIs) and 15 home runs, solidifying his position as one of the best hitters in the league.
Despite his athletic achievements, Seymour's career was not without controversy. In 1903, he was involved in an altercation with a fan during a game, which resulted in a fine and suspension. However, his exceptional performance on the field overshadowed these incidents, and he continued to be highly sought after by various teams throughout his career.
Cy Seymour retired from professional baseball in 1909 after playing for the New York Giants once again. With a career batting average of .303, 1,780 hits, and multiple impressive seasons, Seymour left an impact on the sport that still resonates today. Although his name may not be as widely recognized today as some other baseball legends, his skill and contributions to the game are still celebrated, keeping his legacy alive in the annals of American baseball history.
