Jake Daubert
Jake Daubert Bio
Jake Daubert, born on April 7, 1884, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, was an American baseball player whose exceptional skills on the field earned him recognition as one of the game's finest first basemen of the early 20th century. Daubert's career spanned from 1910 to 1924, during which he played for the Brooklyn Superbas/Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. Known for his exceptional fielding abilities, Daubert was oftentimes praised for his agility and grace around the first base. However, he was not just a defensive powerhouse; Daubert also showcased remarkable batting skills, consistently delivering high batting averages throughout his career.
Daubert began his professional baseball journey in the minor leagues before being called up to the major leagues in 1910 with the Brooklyn Superbas (later known as the Brooklyn Dodgers). It was during his time with the Superbas/Dodgers that Daubert established himself as a standout player, earning praise for his smooth playing style and consistent contributions to his team's success. He was a key player in the Dodgers' National League pennant-winning season in 1916 and played a crucial role in their victory against the New York Yankees in the historic 1916 World Series.
In 1920, Daubert was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, where he continued to excel on the field. His time with the Reds saw him achieve several notable milestones, including leading the National League in hits in 1922 and winning his only batting title with a .329 average in 1913. Daubert's consistency and versatility made him a valued asset for any team he played for, and his impact reached far beyond the field.
Tragically, Jake Daubert's life was cut short at the age of 40 when he contracted tuberculosis. He passed away on October 9, 1924, leaving behind a legacy of excellence both as a baseball player and as a respected sports figure. Jake Daubert may no longer be seen on the baseball diamond, but his contributions to the sport and his impact on the game's early years cannot be overstated.
