Mike Quade

Mike Quade Bio

Mike Quade is an American former professional baseball player and manager. Born on March 12, 1957, in Evanston, Illinois, Quade's passion for the sport began at an early age. He attended Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, where he excelled on the baseball field. Quade continued his baseball journey at the University of New Orleans, where he played as an outfielder. After completing his collegiate career, Quade signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as an undrafted free agent. He spent several years playing in the minor leagues before making his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 1986 with the Pirates. However, his time at the MLB level was limited, and he primarily played in the minors throughout his career. Quade retired as a player in 1989 after a brief stint with the Cleveland Indians organization. Quade's true impact on the baseball world came as a manager. He embarked on a coaching career, working his way up through the ranks in various minor league organizations. In 2010, he got his big break when he was named the interim manager of the Chicago Cubs, replacing Lou Piniella. Quade's strong leadership skills and baseball knowledge impressed the Cubs' front office, and they eventually made him the permanent manager for the 2011 season. During his tenure as the Cubs' manager, Quade faced various challenges. The team struggled and failed to reach the success that fans and organization desired. However, Quade's commitment to fostering a positive team culture and developing young talent was evident. Despite his efforts, the Cubs decided to part ways with him after the 2011 season, leading to the end of his managerial career. While Quade's time as a celebrity in the U.S. may not be as well-known as some high-profile stars, his contributions to the baseball community have made him a respected figure in the sport. Beyond his managerial role, Quade has continued to be involved in baseball, working in scouting and player development roles for several MLB organizations. His dedication and passion for the game have left a lasting impact on the sport, making him an important figure in American baseball history.
