Mura began his professional baseball journey when he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1970. After spending several years in the minor leagues, he finally made his MLB debut with the Cardinals on September 10, 1975. Over the course of his career, he played for the Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and Milwaukee Brewers before retiring in 1985.
