Hailing from the state of Illinois, Wohlhuter achieved great success in the world of athletics during the 1970s. Known for his exceptional speed and endurance, he became one of the most celebrated American track and field athletes of his time. Wohlhuter first gained national prominence when he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. It was here that he began to showcase his remarkable talent in middle-distance running. He quickly established himself as a formidable competitor, capturing attention at both the collegiate and national levels. In 1971, he set a national collegiate record in the 880-yard run, cementing his place as one of the most accomplished athletes in the country. Building on his collegiate success, Wohlhuter went on to represent the United States in international competitions, including the Olympics. He made his Olympic debut at the 1972 Munich Games, where he competed in the 800 meters and 1500 meters events. Although he faced tough competition from world-class athletes, Wohlhuter displayed his exceptional skill and determination. He managed to secure a silver medal in the 800 meters, becoming the first American to accomplish this feat since 1908. Following his Olympic success, Wohlhuter continued to dominate the world of middle-distance running. He set multiple world records in the 880-yard race and the 800 meters.
