Greg Polis Bio
Greg Polis is a celebrated former ice hockey player from Canada, who earned his place in the limelight during his successful career in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on November 21, 1947, in Westlock, Alberta, Polis displayed an exceptional talent for the sport from an early age. As a left-winger, he possessed remarkable speed, agility, and an impressive scoring ability that made him a force to be reckoned with on the ice.
Polis embarked on his professional hockey journey in 1967 when he joined the NHL as a member of the Chicago Black Hawks (now known as the Chicago Blackhawks). He quickly established himself as a valuable asset to the team, contributing significantly to their success. However, it was his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins where Polis truly made his mark. From 1968 to 1975, he became an integral part of the Penguins' lineup, playing alongside renowned players like Jean Pronovost and Bryan Hextall.
One of Polis' most memorable seasons came in 1971-1972, with the Penguins finishing with a record of 26 wins and 38 losses. Despite the team's overall performance, Polis shone as their top scorer, tallying an impressive 31 goals and 31 assists. His exceptional performance on the ice earned him a spot in the NHL All-Star Game that year, further solidifying his status as a rising star in the league.
Tragically, Polis faced several career-ending injuries throughout his time in the NHL, which ultimately led to his retirement in 1979. However, his contributions to the sport were not forgotten, and he remains highly regarded for his skills and achievements in Canadian ice hockey. I
