Longship

One of the excavated/recovered ships in the Viking Ship Museum, near Oslo, Norway. Remarkable carvings - the owner must have been very proud. This is the Oseberg ship, recovered from a burial mound. It accommodates a crew of roughly thirty rowers and could reach 10 knots (12 mph). Parts of the ship date to 820AD, suggesting it was built in or before that year, with wood from Western Norway.
