Nabwana I.G.G., also known as Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey Nabwana, is a highly acclaimed filmmaker from Uganda. He is the founder and director of Wakaliwood, a film company located in Wakaliga, a slum in the capital city of Kampala. Nabwana has gained international recognition for his unique and low-budget action films, often referred to as "Wakaliwood cinema."
Born in 1971, Nabwana grew up in a humble background with limited access to technology or formal education. Despite these challenges, he developed a passion for storytelling at a young age. In 2006, he decided to pursue his dream of making movies and founded Wakaliwood with a group of friends and family members. Initially, they shot their films using a basic mini-dv camera and homemade props, displaying remarkable creativity and resourcefulness.
Wakaliwood's films primarily feature martial arts, crime, and action-packed storylines, infused with elements of humor and local culture.
