Kitty McGeever was a British actress best known for her role as Lizzie Lakely in the long-running ITV soap opera, Emmerdale. Born in 1966 in Liverpool, McGeever was one of six siblings and grew up in Carew, Pembrokeshire. She was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at just 11 years old, which caused her to gradually lose her sight over time. Despite this, McGeever remained determined to pursue her passion for acting.
Following her graduation from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, McGeever landed her first acting role in the BBC drama series Cardiac Arrest. She went on to make appearances in various other TV shows, including Casualty, Holby City, and Doctors. However, it wasn't until she was cast as Lizzie Lakely in 2009 that she gained widespread recognition and admiration for her acting abilities.
McGeever was widely regarded as a trailblazer for the visually-impaired acting community, and spoke openly about the challenges and discrimination she faced throughout her career. She was a patron of Sight Cymru and was involved in various other initiatives to support people with visual impairments. McGeever tragically passed away in 2015, aged just 44, following a bone marrow transplant.
Despite her relatively short career, McGeever left a lasting legacy in the world of acting and was an inspiration to many.
