Trond Høiby, also known as Trond Berntsen, was a Norwegian civil servant and policeman who gained significant media attention due to his connection with a member of the Norwegian royal family. Born on February 22, 1971, in Norway, Høiby worked as a police officer in Oslo and acted as a personal bodyguard for the Norwegian royal family, assigned to protect the Crown Prince's family. Høiby came into the public eye primarily due to his relationship with Princess Märtha Louise of Norway. The Princess, born into the Norwegian royal family, is the oldest child of King Harald V and Queen Sonja. The couple began dating in the late 1990s and married in 2002, resulting in Høiby officially becoming a member of the Norwegian royal family. Tragically, Høiby's life was cut short by a shocking act of violence. On July 22, 2011, he was among the victims of the Utøya massacre committed by extremist Anders Behring Breivik. The attack, which took place on the island of Utøya during a political youth camp, claimed the lives of 69 individuals, including Høiby. Høiby's death left a deep impact on Princess Märtha Louise, their three children, and the Norwegian nation as a whole.
