Howard Lindsay was an acclaimed American actor, director, playwright, and producer. Born on March 29, 1889, in Waterford, New York, Lindsay's creative career started in the early 1900s as an actor on Broadway. He is mostly known for his playwriting skills, creating many Broadway hits with his collaborator Russel Crouse. He was one of the founding members of The Theatre Guild, the first professional repertory company in America. He also served as the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where he helped establish the current Oscar presentation format.
