Ok, genuinely asking because I can’t seem to find anyone who shares my opinion and it’s making me crazy… If your mother planned in secret an international vacation with your mother in law, spouse, and sibling but not you. Rather, it was assumed you would be ok staying home with the kids. Upset? No big deal? What do you think..?

My mom wouldn't do that & I don't have a MIL really anymore BUT uh I'd be livid in this hypothetical situation. Not necessarily because staying home or them going on a trip without me, but because it was planned in secret without communication. There's also presumably a financial impact to this, too.

If I were you and had the extra funds I would take the kids for some bonding time, or even something simple like camping or the beach. I wish I could see my kids more often.

Do you get to have fun? Are you repressed? A women's vacation could be a lot of fun for them. Is this costing you opportunities you would have otherwise had? Is there something you could do to make that time special for you and the children? I mean clearly they should have asked. That would have been polite. Those questions aren't rhetorical. The details matter. If this is the one vacation y'all get to take per decade then yeah it is a pretty big deal. If you are missing out on Girls night to Barcelona and your plan was to play videogames anyway. Not so much. This is also a potential opportunity. Always wanted to go to Japan? Wife not interested? Good thing you have this in your back pocket. Also just go to a theme park and have an ice cream party. Unless you literally can't because this trip takes all the air out of the room in which case not cool.

Hard to know as this situation could not happen to me. But I do hate when others decide things for me. Imagining: If they ask - have fun on you vacation. If they don't - I'm pissed off, but won't stop them.
