Hoang Thanh Trang is a Vietnamese-born Hungarian chess Grandmaster and Olympic champion. Born on April 25, 1980, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Trang's family relocated to Hungary when she was just four years old. She quickly made a name for herself in the world of chess and is considered one of Hungary's most accomplished chess players. Trang's passion for chess became evident at a young age, and she started playing competitively while still in primary school. Her talent and dedication soon caught the attention of Hungarian chess coaches, and they began nurturing her skills. Trang rapidly progressed and earned the title of International Master in 1991 at the age of eleven. In 1994, at the tender age of fourteen, Trang moved to Budapest to fully concentrate on her chess career. This decision paid off, as she won the Hungarian Women's Chess Championship a year later, becoming one of the youngest players to achieve such an accomplishment in the history of Hungarian chess. Trang's ascent continued, and in 2005, she was awarded the prestigious title of Grandmaster by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Throughout her career, Trang has represented Hungary in numerous international tournaments and achieved remarkable results. She has competed in multiple Chess Olympiads, starting from 2000, and played a significant role in helping the Hungarian women's national team claim several team medals. In 2008, Trang also won an individual gold medal at the Women's Chess Olympiad. Her exceptional achievements in the chess world have not only brought recognition to herself but have also contributed to Hungary's reputation as a force to be reckoned with in chess.
