One of the things I dislike most about being British is that most of my life it was practically impossible to find someone my age to date who wasn't a binge drinker.

I've heard this situation has changed a lot for gen Z (and it seems anime, gaming and DND are also kinda cool for them rather than 'horrifyingly undateable hobbies'). 

Honestly, I envy them for it, even if the world and economy they're growing up into is a total utter mess. Often wish I had been born a late millennial rather than Xennial / early millennial. Even if it meant missing out on the golden age of retro computers and retro gaming.

I have read that it can be extremely difficult, expensive and slow nowadays to bring a non-UK/ROI partner to the UK to live with you, even if you have been married together for ten years.

If you succeed in becoming resident together in the UK, it can also be difficult and expensive to get permanent residence rights (ILR), which are important for the long term if your partner is from a country that does not allow dual citizenship. (Eg Spain, Japan, many others).

If you go through the process and finally after many years they get ILR established, consider that a political party leading in the UK polls this year, seems to want to cancel most/all ILR status, which could mean your partner having to leave even after they have established themselves for many years at great effort and expense. Other parties are discussing changing ILR timeframes from 5 years wait to 10 years.

Long story short: international dating after Brexit seems to be very different to dating before Brexit.

I just got back from Wolverhampton, man... I didn't visit, I survived ! That place is so cold, even my feelings  got frostbite! I’m like, ‘Why does the sun even bother  showing up in the UK? It’s just there for moral support!’
And the weather, bro..

 The sky, the buildings, even the pigeons  look like they’re about to file for emotional support!
 I land back in Italy, sun’s out, pasta’s callin’ my name, and I’m like, ‘Who tricked  me into going back to the UK for vacation?!’
I love my UK friends, but y’all party like it’s the last day before  the apocalypse and drink like it’s already here!
 I’m over there like, I came for the vibes, but I left with a cold, a hangover, and a new appreciation for color !’
