She was also an important ambassador for women's skiing, as her success helped to establish women's alpine skiing as a popular and respected sport in Norway and around the world. After her skiing career ended, Mowinckel worked as a ski instructor and ran a hotel in Geilo, Norway. She remained an important figure in the skiing world, and in 1987 was awarded the King's Medal of Merit for her contributions to the sport. Agnes Mowinckel passed away in 2010 at the age of 93, but her legacy as one of Norway's greatest ski racers of all time lives on.
