When Nietzsche Wept

There's a bit in this book by Irvin Yalom where the Pandora myth is mentioned in reference to the idea that hope is actually the greatest of all ills (which is why, the writer seems to theorise, it was in the same box as all the ills that escaped). What are your thoughts on this? Is acceptance of despair better/ more liveable than a repeated crushing on renewed hopes?

I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum of hope and despair. My personal experience is that my hope always weakened me and made me vulnerable whereas accepting despair and rock bottom has brought stability and progress.
