Samy Abu Zaid, also known as Samy Anan, is an Egyptian retired military general and politician. He was born on January 15, 1948, in Mansoura, Egypt. With a military career spanning over four decades, Samy Abu Zaid played a key role in the Egyptian Armed Forces, ultimately rising to the position of Chief of Staff and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. After graduating from the Egyptian Military Academy in 1967, Samy Abu Zaid joined the Egyptian Army and quickly excelled in his military career. He went on to receive extensive training both domestically and internationally, enhancing his skills and expertise in various military disciplines. Over the years, he held several significant positions within the Egyptian Armed Forces, including Chief of the Military Intelligence and Director of the President's Office. Following the Egyptian Revolution in 2011, Samy Abu Zaid became a prominent figure in Egyptian politics. In 2012, he was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces by then-President Mohamed Morsi. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was later dismissed from his position by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in 2013. Despite his retirement, Samy Abu Zaid remained involved in Egyptian politics and formed the Political Will Party in 2014. This marked his official entry into the political arena, aspiring to bring about change and promote democratic values in post-revolution Egypt. However, the party faced legal obstacles and was eventually disbanded by the authorities. In recent years, Samy Abu Zaid has largely stayed out of the public eye.
