The steel pan was invented here in Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. Not sure what the story is but somebody was fiddling with an old oil drum and thought it sounded interesting and decided to turn it into an instrument. Somehow it worked out now it's our national instrument and a key part of our Carnival. The moon drum is just a weird hippie version of the steel pan in my opinion.
