Kyokutenhō Masaru, also known as Kyokutenhō Tarō, is a retired professional sumo wrestler from Mongolia. Born on March 3, 1975, in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, Kyokutenhō enjoyed a long and successful career in the world of sumo wrestling, becoming one of the most respected and accomplished wrestlers of his time. Standing at an impressive height of 1.81 meters and weighing around 150 kilograms during his prime, he possessed the physical attributes required for success in the sport. Kyokutenhō made his debut in sumo wrestling in March 1992, entering the highest professional division, called makuuchi, in May 1997. Throughout his career, he competed under the Oishi stable, which he joined in 1992. He was known for his remarkable technique and stamina, as well as his calm and composed demeanor in the ring. These qualities played a significant role in his numerous victories and earned him the respect of his peers and fans alike. Kyokutenhō's greatest achievements came during the early 2000s when he reached the rank of ōzeki, the second highest rank in sumo wrestling, in July 2003. He held the ōzeki title for two tournaments and was the first Mongolian wrestler to attain this position. Despite facing setbacks in the form of injuries, he remained a formidable force on the dohyo (sumo ring) throughout his career, often defeating higher-ranked opponents with his skillful techniques. After over two decades in the sport, Kyokutenhō retired from professional sumo in 2015 at the age of 40. Following his retirement, he became the head coach of the Tomozuna stable, where he continued to contribute to the development of young sumo wrestlers. Despite his retirement, Kyokutenhō's legacy as one of Mongolia's finest sumo wrestlers lives on, serving as an inspiration for aspiring wrestlers both in Mongolia and around the world.
