Eva Bartok was a British actress who made her mark in Hollywood during the golden age of cinema in the 1950s. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1927, Bartok moved to the UK after World War II and began her acting career in British films in the early 1950s. She quickly gained popularity and became known for her glamourous looks and sensuous performances. Bartok’s breakthrough came in the 1951 film “The Crimson Pirate” opposite Burt Lancaster. She went on to star in several Hollywood films such as “The 27th Day” (1957), “The Hearse” (1980) and “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977) as well as numerous European productions. Bartok also appeared in several television shows throughout her career, including “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and “The Saint”. Despite her success on screen, Bartok had a tumultuous personal life. She had four marriages, including one to film producer Alexander Paal, with whom she had a son. In addition, Bartok struggled with mental illness and spent time in psychiatric hospitals. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 71 from liver cancer. Despite the ups and downs in her personal life, Eva Bartok remains remembered as one of the leading actresses of her generation.
