Gareth Forwood Bio

Gareth Forwood was a talented British actor born on October 14, 1930, in Marylebone, London. However, he did not gain widespread fame for his thespian skills, but rather for his personal relationships with notable actresses in the entertainment industry. Forwood was married to the iconic Hollywood actress, Vivien Leigh, from 1961 to 1967. The pair met in 1956 in the set of "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone." Four years after Leigh's divorce from Laurence Olivier, Forwood and Leigh tied the knot in a civil ceremony in London. Yet, their fairytale romance was cut short by Leigh's battle with tuberculosis and manic depression. Forwood made few appearances in television series and films, although his talent on stage has been acknowledged. Some of his performances include roles in the films "Interpol" (1957) and "Rampage at Apache Wells" (1965), and later in his career, he appeared in various television series such as "The Avengers" (1961-1969) and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" (1962-1965). Despite his modest acting career, Forwood maintained a close relationship with Vivien Leigh throughout her illness and until her untimely death in 1967. After Leigh's death, Forwood sought a quieter life in Indonesia where he secured a job as an English teacher. However, he still maintained his connection with the entertainment industry by working as a set designer in some notable films in Indonesia. In his late years, Forwood returned to London and lived a low-profile life until his death on July 5, 2007. Although he was never able to establish himself as a notable actor, his legacy as the devoted husband of Hollywood icon Vivien Leigh still lives on.
