John Bardon
John Bardon Bio
John Bardon was a British actor best known for his role as Jim Branning in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. Born on August 25, 1939, in Brentford, West London, he was one of nine children. He left school at the age of 16 and worked on a building site as a plasterer before joining the British Army. After serving in the Army, he returned to plastering but always had a passion for acting. He attended a drama school in Ealing to hone his craft, and in 1961, he made his stage debut in The Boy Friend.
Bardon appeared in numerous British television series, including The Bill, Midsomer Murders, Casualty, and Holby City. However, it was his role in EastEnders that brought him to a wider audience. He first appeared on the show in 1996 as the father of Carol Jackson, played by Lindsey Coulson. He quickly became a fan favourite and continued to play the role until 2011 when he suffered a stroke, forcing him to retire from acting. His character was written out of the show and was given a touching and emotional farewell in a special episode.
Apart from acting, Bardon was also a keen supporter of charity, particularly those that helped disabled children. He was a patron of the Downs Syndrome Association, and in 1999, he was awarded a CBE for his services to drama and charity. His death in 2014 at the age of 75 was a huge loss to the world of British television, and he was fondly remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
