Pat Coombs was a much-loved British actress and comedian, born on August 27, 1926. She was born in Camberwell, London, and first became interested in acting while working as an assistant stage manager at the London Palladium during World War II. Coombs went on to have a successful career in film, television, and theatre, earning a reputation for her talent and versatility as a performer. Perhaps best known for her roles in British sitcoms, Coombs made numerous appearances on the BBC's "The Benny Hill Show" and "Last of the Summer Wine," as well as the popular ITV series "George and Mildred." She also performed in West End productions of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "A Little Night Music," and "No Sex Please, We're British," among others. Throughout her career, Coombs was celebrated for her wit, charm, and ability to deliver a punchline. She often played characters that were eccentric or boisterous, and was a master of physical comedy. Her talent for making audiences laugh was recognized in, 1989, when she was awarded an MBE for services to entertainment. Coombs continued to work in theatre and television until her death in 2002, leaving behind a legacy as one of Britain's most beloved comic actresses.
