She became a familiar face to millions of TV viewers in the UK and around the world with her performances in iconic shows like "Just William" and "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin."
Yates' big break came in 1976 when she was cast as Elizabeth Perrin, the long-suffering wife of Reggie Perrin, played by Leonard Rossiter, in the hit comedy "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin." The show was a major success, and Yates' performance as the patient and loving Elizabeth, who had to endure her husband's constant midlife crisis and ridiculous schemes, won her widespread admiration from audiences.
In addition to her television work, Yates also appeared in several films, including "The Huggetts Abroad" in 1949, "The Man in the White Suit" in 1951, and "House of Mortal Sin" in 1976. However, it was her TV work that made her a household name. She continued to act well into her seventies, appearing in shows like "Doctors" and "Holby City" in the 2000s, and was last seen on screen in the ITV crime drama "Midsomer Murders" in 2013.
