Carl Möhner was an Austrian actor, writer, and director, best known for his work in the film industry during the 1960s and 1970s. Möhner was born on August 24,1931, in Vienna, Austria. He began his acting career in 1953, making his debut in the film "Keine Angst vor großen Tieren". Later, he went on to act in various successful movies and TV series in Austria, Germany and Italy.

Möhner started to receive international recognition for his performance in the World War II drama film "The Guns of Navarone" in 1961. He played the role of a German soldier who was hesitating to follow the Nazi's order to execute unarmed civilians. The film was a success critically and commercially, receiving seven Oscar nominations and winning one award. After "The Guns of Navarone", Möhner acted in other international productions such as "The Longest Day" and "Escape to Athena".

In addition to his acting career, Möhner wrote and directed several films, notably the Austrian comedy "Ein echter Wiener geht nicht unter". The film was a hit among the Austrian audience and turned Möhner into a household name. His success with the movie led him to create another series, "Kottan ermittelt", a satirical crime series that aired in the 1970s. The show became an instant classic and was praised for its unique humor and social commentary on Austrian society.

Despite his success, Möhner retired from acting in the late 1980s and returned to writing and directing. He continued to live in Vienna until his death on August 29, 1991, at the age of 60. Möhner's contributions to the Austrian film industry have been significant and he is remembered as one of the greatest actors and directors in the country's history.
