Elisabeth Neumann-Viertel was an Austrian actress who became popular in the 1930s and 1940s. She was born on May 16, 1900, in Vienna, Austria. She started her acting career on the stage in Vienna in 1921 and eventually made her way to Berlin, where she became one of the leading actresses of the time. Her big break came when she was cast in the German film, "The House of Rothschild" in 1934. While she managed to continue acting in films, she was forced to hide her heritage and ultimately fled Austria when the Nazis took over. She appeared in more than 20 films, including "The Seventh Cross" (1944), "The Big Clock" (1948), and "The Big Circus" (1959).
