Humbert Balsan was a French film producer and actor known for his work in the French cinema industry. He was born on July 21, 1954, in Paris, France, and was the son of a wealthy family who owned a notable group of cinemas in France. He was raised in a privileged environment and had access to the world of cinema from an early age, sparking his passion for film. Balsan studied literature and philosophy before venturing into the world of acting in the late 1970s. He appeared in a few films such as "Les Soeurs Bronte" (1979) and "La Memoire Courte" (1979). Although he enjoyed acting, Balsan soon realized that his true calling was behind the camera. He began producing films and quickly gained a reputation for his daring and innovative choices. Balsan produced several critically acclaimed films, working with notable directors such as Werner Herzog, Raoul Ruiz, and Jacques Rivette. Some of his most successful productions include "Strayed" (2003) and "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" (2005), both of which were awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also instrumental in launching the career of several talented filmmakers such as Paolo Sorrentino and Abdellatif Kechiche. Despite his success, Balsan struggled with depression and committed suicide on February 10, 2005, at the age of 50. His death came as a shock to the film industry, and many of his colleagues paid tribute to his talent and vision.
