Throughout his career, Deret was best known for his collaborations with renowned French film director Jean- Pierre Mocky. The two worked together on several films, including "La Grande Frousse" (1964), "Les Bons Vivants" (1965), and "Les Compagnons de la Marguerite" (1967).

During the 1970s, Deret also began directing films as well. His directorial debut came with the film "C'est pas parce qu'on a rien à dire qu'il faut fermer sa gueule" (1975), followed by "On a retrouvé la 7ème compagnie!" (1975), and "La Honte de la famille" (1975). Deret went on to direct several other films throughout the years and also continued to act in various productions.

Jean-Claude Deret passed away on November 26, 1998, in Berneuil-en-Bray, France. His contribution to the French film industry is still remembered and celebrated by film enthusiasts today.
