Segall's breakout success came with his screenplay for the romantic comedy film "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" in 1941. Directed by Alexander Hall, the film follows the story of a boxer who is mistakenly taken to heaven before his designated time and is returned to earth in the body of a recently murdered millionaire. "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" received critical acclaim and earned Segall an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Expanding on the success of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan," Segall continued his screenwriting career, penning scripts for notable films like "Heaven Can Wait" (1943), a comedy starring Gene Tierney and Don Ameche, which received another Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay. He also wrote the screenplay for the musical comedy film "Song of the Thin Man" (1947), the last installment in the popular "Thin Man" film series starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.
Throughout his career, Harry Segall's works were recognized for their sharp dialogue, creative plots, and ability to blend humor with engaging storytelling.
