This striking act of nonviolent resistance brought her the title of "Iron Lady of Manipur."
Despite facing immense hardship and numerous threats to her life, Irom Maipak remained resolute in her mission and continued her hunger strike for an astounding sixteen years. Her unwavering determination captured the attention of various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International. Although she ended her fast in 2016, her brave actions have left an indelible mark on the fight for justice in India and worldwide.
