Craig Morton
Craig Morton Bio
Craig Morton is a former American football quarterback who made a significant impact in the National Football League (NFL) during his illustrious career. Born on February 5, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, Morton displayed his love and talent for football early on. He attended the University of California, where he played college football for the California Golden Bears and earned All-American honors. Morton's exceptional performance in college led to his selection by the Dallas Cowboys as the fifth overall pick in the 1965 NFL Draft.
Morton spent the first ten seasons of his professional career with the Dallas Cowboys, becoming an integral part of their success in the 1970s. Working under esteemed head coach Tom Landry, Morton exhibited an impressive combination of arm strength, accuracy, and leadership skills. He showcased his ability to perform under pressure and led the team to several playoff appearances, including a Super Bowl VI appearance in 1972. Although they fell short in that game, Morton's contributions to the Cowboys' success cannot be denied.
After his tenure with the Cowboys, Morton continued his career with the New York Giants in 1974 before making a move to the Denver Broncos in 1977. His time with the Broncos proved to be particularly notable, as he led them to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance in 1977. Despite falling short in the Super Bowl XII against the Dallas Cowboys, Morton's impressive performances during the season earned him the Pro Football Writers Association NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
Craig Morton retired from professional football in 1983, leaving behind a substantial legacy and a strong influence on the NFL. His career accomplishments include two Super Bowl appearances, four Pro Bowl selections, and being named the UPI NFC Player of the Year in 1970. Morton's impact on the game and his teams extended beyond his statistics, as he was known for his leadership abilities and his ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations. Today, Craig Morton is recognized as one of the most talented and respected quarterbacks in NFL history, making him an enduring figure in American football.
