Don Boven was born on April 6, 1925, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and is a former professional basketball player from the United States. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall (193 cm) and weighing around 190 pounds (86 kg) in his prime, Boven played as a guard-forward during his career. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School, where he achieved considerable success in basketball, and later continued his basketball journey at the University of Western Michigan, where he was a star player.

Boven's professional career began in 1949 when he was selected by the Detroit Falcons in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) draft. He played for the Falcons in the 1949-50 season, which was also the first season of the BAA's successor league, the National Basketball Association (NBA). After his tenure with the Falcons, Boven joined the Indianapolis Olympians for the 1950-51 season, where he continued to showcase his skills on the court.

In 1951, Boven was involved in a major trade that saw him being sent to the Fort Wayne Pistons. This move turned out to be a significant turning point in his career, as he played a key role in helping the Pistons secure the NBA championship in the 1953-54 season. Boven's contributions to the team's success were highly regarded, and he was an excellent scorer and rebounder during his time with the Pistons.

After playing for the Pistons, Boven went on to spend two seasons with the Rochester Royals before retiring from professional basketball in 1957. Following his retirement, he turned his focus to coaching and enjoyed a successful career as a high school basketball coach in Michigan.
