Bennett was born on June 15, 1972, in Birmingham, Alabama, and spent his early years growing up in the area. Upon graduating from Ensley High School, Bennett was recruited to play college football at the University of Miami. He joined the Miami Hurricanes football program and became an essential player for the team. During his time at Miami, Bennett demonstrated exceptional skills as a fullback, drawing attention from NFL scouts. As a result, he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 1994 NFL Draft.
Bennett's professional career began with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played from 1994 to 1998. As a fullback in the NFL, he showcased his versatility as both a blocker and a runner, steadily making an impact on the field. In 1996, Bennett had a breakout season, recording 861 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, cementing his position as a key player for the Chiefs' offense.
After leaving the Chiefs, Bennett signed with the Washington Football Team (then known as the Washington Redskins) in 1999. He played for the team for two seasons before joining the Arizona Cardinals for the 2001 season.
