John David Crow was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator who garnered significant recognition and success throughout his career. Born on July 8, 1935, in Marion, Louisiana, Crow rose to fame as a standout running back at Texas A&M University. His exceptional skills on the field led to him becoming the first Aggie to ever win the Heisman Trophy, considered one of the most prestigious awards in college football, in 1957. This accomplishment cemented his status as one of the greatest players in Texas A&M history. After completing his college football career, Crow went on to play professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He was selected as the second overall pick in the 1958 NFL Draft by the Chicago Cardinals (now the Arizona Cardinals). Crow's versatility as a player was evident as he excelled both as a running back and as a wide receiver during his time with the Cardinals. He went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers from 1965 to 1968, where he contributed significantly to the team's success. He served as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama under the legendary Bear Bryant and helped guide the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 1973.
