Lisle Blackbourn was an American football player and coach. He was born on January 21, 1899, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Blackbourn began his football career at Marquette University, where he played as a quarterback from 1919 to 1921. After graduating from Marquette, he went on to play professional football in the early 1920s for several teams, including the Milwaukee Badgers and the Chicago Cardinals. During his time as a player, Blackbourn gained valuable experience and knowledge of the game, which he would later bring to his coaching career. In 1947, he was hired as the head coach of the Marquette Golden Avalanche football team. Under his guidance, the team achieved considerable success, winning the Sun Bowl in 1948 and finishing the 1951 season with an impressive record of 8-1-1. In 1954, Blackbourn made a significant move in his coaching career as he was appointed the head coach for the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL). During his tenure with the Packers from 1954 to 1957, he led the team to two winning seasons, including a trip to the NFL Championship game in 1956. Although the Packers did not secure the championship, Blackbourn's leadership and coaching abilities were widely recognized. Off the field, Lisle Blackbourn was admired for his dedication to the game and his commitment to the development of young players.
