Renowned for his physicality and fearless demeanor, he made a name for himself at the collegiate level and later in the NFL.
Schmitt initially attended Butte College, where he excelled as a member of the football team. His impressive performance caught the attention of coaches at West Virginia University, leading to a transfer. Playing for the Mountaineers, he contributed significantly to the team's success, helping them win the Sugar Bowl in 2006. Known for his "runaway beer truck" style of play, Schmitt became a fan favorite at West Virginia due to his tenacity and willingness to sacrifice his body for the betterment of the team.
In 2008, Owen Schmitt entered the NFL Draft and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round. He spent two seasons with the Seahawks, showcasing his physicality and versatility on the field. After leaving the Seahawks, Schmitt went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he continued to make an impact as a hard-nosed fullback. While injuries hampered his playing time, Schmitt's aggressive style and never-back-down attitude won him the respect and admiration of teammates and fans alike.
