Bernt Haas is an Austrian former professional footballer who gained recognition for his skills as a defender during his playing career. He was born on April 8, 1978, in Dornbirn, Austria. Haas began his football journey in his home country, playing for several clubs in the Austrian Bundesliga before moving on to represent various teams across Europe. His versatility in playing as both a right-back and a center-back contributed to his success and made him a sought-after player. Haas started his professional career in 1994 at LASK Linz, where he showcased his promising talent. After a successful spell, he caught the eye of Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich, who signed him in 1996. Haas quickly made an impact at Grasshoppers, becoming a regular starter and earning a reputation as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe. This led to a transfer to English Premier League team West Bromwich Albion in 1999, where he continued to impress with his solid defending and ability to contribute to attacking play. In 2001, Haas made a move to Switzerland's FC Basel, where he had a successful three-year stint, helping the club win the Swiss Super League in two consecutive seasons.
