This feat earned him the title of the oldest driver to start a NASCAR Cup Series race, which he achieved at the age of 76 in 2011. Tragically, James Hylton's racing career came to an abrupt end on April 28, 2018, when he, along with his son James Jr., was involved in a fatal car accident on their way back from a race.
